Yes. Our comprehensive range of healthcare options puts you in control of creating the right health insurance policy for your needs.
Yes. When you first start your health insurance policy, you can change your level of cover within the first 30 days of the issue date on your Certificate of Insurance. After that, you can change the cover on your annual renewal date.
If you upgrade to include cancer care and/or mental health benefits, we'll ask you to complete a specific medical declaration. Any pre-existing cancer or mental health conditions will not be covered and personal exclusions may be applied.
Qualifying periods may also apply to some of the extras e.g., Premium Hospitals.
When you apply for a policy with us, we assess and determine the risk being presented to us when underwriting the policy.
There are several types of underwriting terms that can be applied to your health insurance policy and these are:
- Moratorium Underwriting
- Full Medical Underwriting
- Switch Underwriting (for customers who are currently insured)
Premiums generally increase at renewal as we take into consideration a number of factors, including, age, where you live, your level of cover, your choice of underwriting, whether you have claimed and medical inflation. Medical inflation can often be greater than the general rate, due to advances in medical and surgical technology.
We believe access to the best hospital for diagnosis or treatment of your condition should be a clinical choice, not a commercial decision driven by a health insurer.
With us, you have access to over 1,000 hospitals, clinics and scanning centres across the UK - including large private hospital groups, independent private hospitals and clinics and private wings of NHS hospitals. It's your health, so you should be able to choose the best hospital for you.
You can extend your choice further by adding the Premium Hospitals option to the policy. The fees charged by these hospitals are considerably higher than elsewhere.
These hospitals are primarily located in and around London. As specialist centres (e.g. for cancer treatment) many patients are referred to these sites for treatment regardless of where they live. In addition, certain specialists only work out of these hospitals. Please note that any treatment (including scans, tests, procedures etc.) recommended by your Specialist at a Premium Hospital, will not be covered unless this option is selected.

An excess is the amount you have to pay towards the cost of your eligible treatment before we provide any benefit. Once your excess has been paid, we will provide benefit for your eligible treatment costs for the remainder of that policy year within your benefit limits.
No, you do not have to have an Excess, it is entirely your choice.
With a No Claims Discount any invoices paid by WPA will have a direct impact on your future premium. This is in addition to our usual pricing factors such as your age, where you live, the options you have selected, your choice of underwriting, when you joined and the rising cost of medical treatment.
Each person has their own discount level and we use a No Claims Discount Ladder, so that you can see directly how your claims impact your level of discount.
There are certain claims that do not affect your No Claims Discount - these include NHS Hospital Cash Benefit and cash extras such as dental and optical fees. In addition, contributions to treatment costs such as an Excess or Shared Responsibility payment will also not affect your No Claims Discount.
