We provide access to the sort of healthcare that we want for ourselves and our families. We’ve been helping our members as a not-for-profit organisation since 1901. That’s quite a while now and, because we're good at it, that’s all we do. Just health insurance. No distractions.

By partnering with like-minded individuals and companies, we offer groundbreaking personal and business health insurance policies that have truly revolutionised healthcare in the UK. From funding cancer drugs not readily available on the NHS, the first benefit of its kind, to being recognised by the World Health Organisation as leading in the development of new policies that reduce costs for our members.

Transparency, openness and honesty

We are authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority (Registration No. 202608).

The renewed regulatory framework applicable to the European insurance industry became effective from 1 January 2016. Under the new framework the Prudential Regulation Authority requires us to publish an annual Solvency and Financial Condition Report at the end of each financial year.

Purpose and principles

We're not hampered by the demands of shareholders motivated to make a profit, meaning we're free to act differently from the rest. We focus on the service we provide to our members. We're all trained first and foremost to listen. To ask questions with empathy, respect and understanding. To give the best advice. To never rush. To care.

This focus on customer service has seen us settle some £0.8bn in claims in the last ten years, with only 9 FOS adjudications against us.

We are one of the few insurers to volunteer details of ombudsman complaints against us.

If you need to make a claim, you expect your insurance provider to be there for you. When you buy our health insurance, you buy our promise that we’ll deliver.

After you’ve made a claim we’ll invite you to rate the service you received from us during the process.

Members rate our claim service as excellent, with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5.

Good causes

The WPA Benevolent Foundation fulfils WPA's second constitutional objective and has a clear remit: to promote good health in young people across the UK.

The WPA Charitable Foundation provides assistance with transport costs to and from hospital for families based in the South West in financial distress with profoundly ill children.

Consultants' opinion of WPA

When it comes to treatment we prioritise clinical best practice over commerciality. All of our members are free to choose when, where and who provides them with treatment.

Perhaps that is why 62% of consultants surveyed by Populus in an independent survey would commend WPA – twice as many as our nearest competitor.

achieving customer satisfaction and continual improvement.

A management system to restore our ability to supply critical services to an agreed level
following a disruption to service.

The internationally recognised Standard for Environmental Management systems - one of the
highest benchmarks in environmental management and best practice.


Information Security Management: ISO 27001:2013

The benchmark for protecting valuable and sensitive customer information.
