Yoga is more than a series of poses; it's a holistic approach to cultivating a balanced and fulfilling life. By embracing the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of the practice, individuals can tap into a wellspring of inner strength and resilience. As we unroll our yoga mats, we embark on a journey of self-discovery, mindful living, and a profound connection to the innate power that resides within each of us. Through yoga, not only do we learn about ourselves physically, but the philosophy of the practice helps us in the way that we show up off the mat too.
For many of us, exercise that is fast paced can be easier to commit to because we are used to moving at that sort of speed. And on the other hand, many of us spend a lot of time in the same position, meaning our bodies hold patterns of tension that build up over time. For both reasons, a slow and stretchy yoga practice can be hugely beneficial. And that's what you will be guided through in this class. We will focus on creating space in your body, but the benefits extend beyond the physical and the intention is that it supports you in body and mind.
A yoga practice can offer so many benefits and we don't have to be flexible to begin. Practicing online at home is a great way to find your feet if you're worried about attending a class in person. It also allows us to practice shorter classes to suit our schedule if it feels difficult to fit in longer classes and/or the travel to a studio.
It's really important to take responsibility for keeping yourself safe while practicing. Often in yoga, injuries are caused because we let the ego get in the way and try to push ourselves too much in order to get where we think we should be in a pose or sequence. This is, in fact, a part of our practice - to quieten the ego and instead be guided safely by the sensations and our breath. The more we adapt our practice to suit our own needs, the greater the benefits are likely to be. So, if you are brand new to yoga and are looking for a place to start, or maybe you are an experienced practitioner looking for what's next - remember that you are exactly where you are supposed to be and that yoga has the potential to be a supportive lifelong practice, so long as you approach it mindfully and responsibly.
