Software Developer
Salary £40,000 - £50,000 (dependent upon skills and experience).
Head office in Taunton, Somerset.
Full-time permanent hybrid role, 37 hours per week.
The role
- Develop, test, and deploy scalable and maintainable applications, ensuring quality, security, and performance.
- Write clean, well-structured, and well-documented code, following best practices and coding standards.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain high code quality across the team.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues, optimising applications for performance and reliability.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of APIs, databases, and system architectures.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks, proactively identifying potential improvements.
- Work with an Azure-based infrastructure, utilising cloud services, containerisation, and automation tools.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying them where beneficial.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous learning by mentoring junior developers and sharing knowledge with the team.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, business analysts, QA, and developers.
What can you bring to WPA?
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. C#, JavaScript, Python, etc.), with experience in front-end frameworks such as React and/or back-end frameworks such as .NET Core.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, RESTful APIs, and microservice architectures.
- Experience working with databases (SQL and NoSQL), query optimisation techniques, and scalable data solutions.
- Experience using Git and related branching strategies, working effectively within Agile or Scrum teams.
- Awareness of security best practices in software development and performance tuning strategies.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to break down complex technical challenges while effectively communicating with stakeholders.
- 3-5 years of professional software development experience, with a strong understanding of software architecture, best practices, and development lifecycles.
