happier, healthier, fitter

The WPA Foundation is all about helping kids across the UK live their happiest, healthiest lives.

We're on a mission to shake things up - less sofa, more sunshine! Fewer fizzy drinks and mindless scrolling, more adventures, playtime, and feeling great. We want to spark a love for movement, fresh air, and big dreams. Every child, no matter where they come from, deserves the chance to thrive. Think more running around, laughing loads and dreaming big.

We're opening doors, sparking smiles, and promoting great health. Imagine a world where young people aren't held back by their postcode - but lifted up by new opportunities.

Aiming to make a real difference to the lives and prospects of young people in our community

South West families

We're here for families facing some of life's toughest moments.

When a child is seriously ill, nothing should stand in the way of a parent being by their side. That's why we help cover travel and accommodation costs to and from hospital, easing the burden so families can focus on what truly matters - comforting, supporting, and simply being there. Because every child deserves a hand to hold.

Helping Gigi discover his green fingers

When West Monkton Primary's veggie patch got a bit wild over the holidays, the Foundation teamed up with the local Parish Council to create a Community Garden and Fridge right outside the school - open to everyone!

Three years later, it has doubled in size and everything that is grown, is to eat. The garden's thriving - and so are the children who are learning from it too.

Classes have claimed a patch of the garden, getting stuck in with digging, planting, and learning loads along the way. Lessons have spilled outside, and teachers are loving the chance to mix practical skills with fresh air.

With the produce, the children are creating simple tasty dishes making the most of things that they have grown.

Any extras go straight into the Community Fridge, so everyone - from pupils to parents - can enjoy more fresh, homegrown veg.

A cheerful space for Willow on her road to recovery

The Foundation was honoured to support Musgrove Park Hospital's Paediatric Assessment Unit transforming their neglected outdoor 'garden' into a safe, refreshing and revitalised calming space.

It has become somewhere where children can be distracted and parents can have a break during difficult times.

With our support, that dream became a reality.

With 20-30 young patients passing through each day, this haven now brings moments of light and distraction to families navigating challenging circumstances.

Food for thought for Alice and her classmates

In the South West, one in five children start the school day without breakfast.1 Hunger, for many, isn't a fleeting feeling - it's a daily reality that dulls focus, dampens energy, and dims potential.

With 7% of households in the region facing food insecurity1 the WPA Foundation is proud to support the Magic Breakfast programme, helping deliver over 140,000 nutritious breakfasts - that's nearly half a million breakfasts since we started supporting them in 2022.

As no child should have to learn on an empty stomach, we believe a healthy start to each day opens the door to a brighter future.

Breakfast is just the beginning.

Supporting families with profoundly ill children

Each week, the WPA Foundation receives heartfelt appeals from families across the South West facing the unimaginable.

When a child becomes seriously ill, the emotional toll is immense - but for families with limited means, the practical burden can be overwhelming. Juggling hospital visits, caring for siblings, managing work and simply putting food on the table can feel like an impossible task. These are choices no parent should have to make.

The Foundation offers vital support during these darkest moments, easing some of the strain so families can focus on what matters most - being there for their child when they are needed most.
