WPA Predictions League

15 October 2021

WPA are proud to have sponsored Somerset County Cricket Club this year. The season has now drawn to a close and so we present the final update on the outcome of the WPA Predictions League.

The correct predictions were as follows.

  • Tom Abell would be lead run scorer. Tom finished the season with 711 runs.
  • Craig Overton would be the leading bowler. Craig led the way for the bowlers with 42 wickets.
  • Somerset would not score more than 500 runs in an innings.
  • Somerset batsmen would score a century at a strike rate of over 100. This was achieved by Tom Lammonby against Lancashire off 99 balls.
  • No hat-tricks by a Somerset bowler. In fact there was only 1 in the County Championship this summer.
  • Someone batting at 10 or 11 would score a half-century. Marchant De Lange achieved this in the first game of the season away to Middlesex.
  • A Somerset batter or bowler would not be in the top 5 run scorers or wicket takers across the 2021 County Championship.
  • Somerset would not win the County Championship or take part in the 2021 Bob Willis Trophy.

The only question that stumped everyone was which Somerset player would hit the most 6's - the clear winner was Marchant De Lange with 19 maximums, 14 more than any other player and second place across all counties!

The winner, Edward, was announced on the Somerset County Cricket Club Twitter feed and was presented with free membership for the 2022 season and a signed shirt.
