Tips and suggestions to look after your health & wellbeing.
Have less, live more
Living through the Covid-19 pandemic may have taught us to appreciate the little things in life and the people we love, who we may
have previously taken for granted. We may have adjusted our way of life and learned to cut back; realising life can be better with less,
or at least it can be less stressful. If we can get to a point of understanding that we do not need to earn more money, buy a bigger house,
have a better car or a bigger social profile to be happy and content, we will realise less can mean more.
Try some of the following suggestions:
Do less by cutting back on commitments, focus on the things which can make the biggest impact.
Being online can consume time if you let it, so try to disconnect for a while during the day.
To enjoy life you do not need to have lots of ‘stuff’ – declutter and let go of unnecessary possessions.
Connect with what is really important – your loved ones and what you enjoy doing.
With less focus on buying things you will have more money and less debt, or maybe work less to live a life you want.
Have a mindful walk
Finding a quiet place to walk, if possible, will help you to have a 10-minute mindful walk. If you are not able to get outdoors,
have a mindful walk around your house. As you are walking, be mindful of your breathing or merely bring awareness to this normal activity.
Whenever we are walking it is important to take yourself out of autopilot and mind-wandering to pay attention.
Try the following:
Walk at your natural pace.
If you are outdoors be aware of the environment.
Keep your hands where they are most comfortable.
Next, notice the sounds you hear.
One option is to count steps up to 10 and then start again.
Shift your focus to notice any smells in the air.
Notice the lifting and falling of your foot, the movement in your legs and the rest of the body.
Look at the colours of any objects you see.
Notice if there is movement from side to side.
To end your walking meditation, stand still for a moment. Consider how this level of awareness could be brought to other aspects of your day.
When your mind wanders guide it back to ‘walking’.
Do you have integrity?
Having integrity means following your moral and ethical convictions and doing the right things, even when no-one else is looking,
or knows about it. Integrity is one of the founding moral virtues, incorporating fairness, honesty and decency.
A person lacking integrity is unable to appreciate the difference between what is honest and dishonest - by ordinary standards.
Integrity is one of the core values employers look for in potential employees. It is also a core value for many businesses.
Organisations with integrity ensure every decision made is based on ethical and moral principles.
The character traits of those with integrity include:
To develop your own integrity:
Fulfil your promises
Get comfortable in saying ‘no’
Have good communication skills
Look at the habits and skills you need to develop to enhance integrity
Avoid people who lack integrity
