XS health - FAQ
Do I have to complete a medical questionnaire before taking out this policy?
Yes, you will need to be fully underwritten before joining the policy. Health insurance, like many other forms of insurance, provides cover for the unknown, so conditions from which you have already suffered are generally excluded from cover. When you complete the application form you will be required to answer some questions about your medical history. Any conditions that you have received treatment for before joining the policy may be excluded from your policy.
What is a pre-existing condition and is it covered?
A pre-existing condition is any disease, illness or injury for which you have received medication, advice or treatment or you have experienced symptoms whether the condition has been diagnosed or not before or on the date cover started. Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded from cover.
Should I contact you before I incur any costs?
Yes, you should contact us before incurring any costs for medical treatment. We can then confirm that your treatment is covered under the policy and that those costs you incur will be deducted from your excess.
What can I claim for?
You are covered for the benefits listed if you suffer from an acute medical condition which started on or after the date you join this policy. Like most other insurers we do not cover chronic conditions. There are also certain General Exclusions, such as psychiatric conditions that apply to your policy. Full details can be found in A Guide to Your Policy.
What is the difference between an acute and a chronic condition?
An acute condition is a disease, illness or injury that is likely to respond quickly to treatment which aims to return you to the state of health you were in immediately before suffering from it, or which leads to your full recovery. A chronic condition is a disease, illness or injury and has at least one of the following characteristics:
- Continues indefinitely and has no known cure;
- Comes back or is likely to come back;
- Is permanent
- You need to be rehabilitated or specially trained to cope with it;
- It needs long term monitoring, consultations, check ups, examinations or tests.
How do I claim?
Simply contact us on 01823 625230 or e-mail pcd@wpa.org.uk to tell us about your proposed treatment.
How does the rolling excess work?
This is best illustrated by an example:
A policyholder takes out an XS health policy in January with a £1,500 excess. They are injured in June and medical treatment costs £1,500. The policyholder pays this amount and has now reached their excess limit so all eligible treatment costs from now until the following June are paid by WPA (providing the policy is renewed in January and your premiums are up to date).
