Reducing our environmental impact
WPA holds ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management. This certification shows that we take our environmental responsibilities seriously.
Here are some of the things we do to limit our impact upon the environment:
- We have reduced the amount of waste sent to landfill by 67% over the last two years through recycling initiatives and reducing waste.
- Through investing in energy efficient equipment, plant and processes (e.g. our computer VDUs power down after 10 minutes of inactivity), we have reduced our energy use by 13% in 2007.
- We run a number of fuel efficient cars within our small fleet, including a hybrid fuel vehicle.
- We have increased our use of email and other electronic means of business transaction, significantly reducing our use of paper and postal services.
- Our telephone and computer administration systems have been developed to make it easier for our staff to work from home, thereby reducing cars on the road and C02 emissions.
- A 15m tall wind turbine has been installed, making a considerable and positive contribution to our energy consumption.
